More flexible jobs to face today
Since before the pandemic, employees defended jobs that allowed them to combine scenarios in their lives through flexibility.
The recent health emergency has caused changes in our lives, in every area in which we operate, and work is no exception, in fact, perhaps it is the one that has experienced the most changes, many for the better and others not so much.
Retaining collaborators, as well as recruiting staff, are some of the difficulties that companies and executives face in the current context, derived from the pandemic, according to the article "Why is it so difficult to retain and hire employees right now ?” published by the MIT Sloan Management Review Mexico.
However, he refers that the difficulties at work are due to the fact that since before the coronavirus, people have focused on taking care of their health and, therefore, are looking for a healthy job that allows them to combine life scenarios through flexibility.
Another point is that more and more families have two incomes, which allows them to choose other goals, such as starting a business or going back to school.
Finally, a third aspect is that there has been a change in organizational attitudes, since the collaborators perceive the organization in search of direction and it develops with a greater sense of personal agency.
Thus, the mix of the aforementioned factors has empowered employees, who now reject really bad jobs and prefer organizations that have begun to offer their labor.
How to hire and retain staff?
The publication points out that it is important to recognize the pandemic as an opportunity to transform the dynamics of life and work, with the adoption of new habits, so executives must consider three points to hire and retain staff:
Healthy work: People now seek more autonomy and flexibility to live in various stages, so they now defend the working life they want and that allows them to start other projects.
Bad jobs are about to disappear: They are those with long hours, low pay, no training, bad bosses, etc., and employees reject them because they prefer those that allow them alternative ways of working.
Other companies will influence the change: At present, diverse work experiences are experienced, in fact, companies design talent practices such as: they allow their collaborators to work from anywhere three months a year, that they do not attend the office or their office hours work are concentrated in only three days.
The truth is that each organization has the responsibility to analyze its environment, its workforce and adopt new work dynamics that allow it to grow and develop hand in hand with its collaborators, because its survival depends on that.
