Gamification in Human Resources

Gamification is a technique on the rise for all organizations. It is about using the strategies of the game within the company in order to motivate and influence goals and skills. It supposes an innovative character and a great impact for the workers, for this reason the importance of gamification will increase in the coming years.

During 2018, gamification is expected to generate 5.5 billion dollars in business volume. So far, 70% of the companies that are part of the Forbes Global 2000 List use gamification techniques.

Deloitte published a few days ago a study on the role of gamification in companies. According to his research, in the next few years 25% of company processes will include this technique. In fact, this percentage increases by 50% if it focuses on innovation processes.

In recent years this technique has also evolved to adapt to the needs of companies. Its growth and popularity transforms gamification proposals into alternatives and innovative dynamics that promote teamwork and motivation to achieve set goals.

Applying gamification in HR has numerous advantages since it can be adapted to the different skills, habits and competencies that the company seeks to promote. It is possible to develop creativity, contribute to good team management and achieve greater commitment with the employee. In addition, it is an alternative way of achieving engagement with collaborators and clients.

On the other hand, gamification becomes a useful tool to work with Millennials, since it involves applying attractive dynamics. This technique promotes three of the factors that are valued when looking for a job: an excellent work environment, good Human Resources techniques and innovation in the workplace.

An example to apply gamification is in the prevention of occupational risks. Employees must make decisions before time runs out. If they don't do it correctly, a panic meter will grow and the user will lose the game if the company's panic reaches its maximum level. This is a very entertaining way to carry out virtual drills, especially on topics that for some collaborators can be tedious and boring.
